I’ve always thought games were a product of their time, and the greatest can be enjoyed not matter how they appear. That being said, I’ll still keep my Gamecube version nice and safe even after buying this one.
Both the HD and SD textures can be swapped at will. The wood on the countryside barn might look a little too clean and polished in the HD version compared to the choppy and rustic SD, but I can’t find too much else that really sticks out. Several comparison shots have popped up on Capcom Unity, and the new HD textures are drop dead gorgeous in both its native 1920×1080 and the cranked up 2560×1600. Most take objection to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 HD version for the lack of effort in the upscaling, but Capcom wants to show that it can be done properly with a PC build.
Which is why the timing is right for giving a proper HD port to one of its greatest games of all time, Resident Evil 4. Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, Bionic Commando, and Street Fighter IV all might actually be better on the PC than their console counterparts.
I’m not saying that their PC ports are amazing and better than everyone else’s, but when you start at rock bottom with some of the older PlayStation 2 games, there is infinite room for improvement. Nobody has done a better job of learning how to port games to the PC than Capcom.
